Julia to compete in "The Games"12.00.00am GMT Wed 1st Feb 2006
Local MP Julia Goldsworthy is to set compete in Channel Four's hit TV show 'The Games', in order to raise money for Cornwall's Air Ambulance and to promote health and fitness. Training has already begun for the programme, which will be shown each night for a fortnight in mid March 2006, with the final week broadcast live from the Don Valley Stadium in Sheffield. Julia will compete against four female celebrities in a range of events including Swimming 50m freestyle, Hurdles, Hammer throwing, 100m Sprint, Cycling, White-water Kayak Slalom, Archery, and floor gymnastics. Ms Goldsworthy is up against some formidable competition including: Amanda Lamb, former model who appeared in the Scottish Widows advert and currently presents a Place in the Sun, the singer Javine, former Eastenders actress Michelle Gayle and Bernie Nolan, actress and former cast member of the Bill. Julia commented: "Naturally I was a little surprised when the makers of The Games approached me, but after thinking about it long and hard, and making sure that it would not effect my parliamentary or constituency duties I jumped at the chance to raise money for Cornwall Air Ambulance. In addition to raising money for charity it is also a great opportunity for me as a member of the Lib Dem Health Team, to promote the importance of health and fitness, at a time when obesity levels across the country are rising so worryingly. "I chose to donate the money to Cornwall Air Ambulance as it is a fantastic organisation that provides an essential service to many people across the County. At present the Air Ambulance is funded entirely by local people. In addition to the money that I will raise for them by participating, I hope that I will be able to raise the profile of this important local charity and encourage people to give it their support. More information about Cornwall Air Ambulance can be found on their website at www.helimed181.co.uk or by calling 01840 213574. "I love sport and am very competitive and I really hope I can win so that I can raise even more money for Cornwall Air Ambulance." So far people have been very supportive and I am sure local people will rally round to support the Air Ambulance. If any body would like to help us raise money, sponsorship forms are available from my office at 75 Trelowarren Street, Camborne 01209-716110 or can be downloaded from my website at www.juliagoldsworthy.org.uk" Related Link:
