Julia says public safety should be Gordon Brown's top priority

Speaking after the announcement that a decision on whether to reduce night-time fire cover in Falmouth and Camborne has been deferred, Julia Goldsworthy MP said:

"The announcement that a decision on these proposals will be deferred until a full risk assessment has been conducted echoes what I have been saying over recent weeks. Any decision taken should be fully informed by the effects that a reduction in night time cover will have on public safety, not just in Falmouth and Camborne, but throughout Cornwall."

"However, it is clear that if the Council eventually chooses to reject the proposals, the savings will have to be made elsewhere. Either way, as a result of inadequate funding from the Government, unpalatable decisions will have to be made."
