Promise of action on Troon Adit flooding5.00.00pm GMT Tue 4th Dec 2007
Action will finally be taken to fix Troon Adit next year, following a meeting called by Julia Goldsworthy MP with English Partnerships, attended by local council representatives and Councillor Tony Bunce. The flooding of the adit has blighted homes across Troon for several years, with many living in appalling conditions, left unable either to sell or insure their homes. Structural surveys have revealed several areas of significant subsidence, as well as rising damp in many dwellings. At the meeting, representatives of English Partnerships explained that further exploratory work could take place before Christmas, with full remediation taking place over the course of next year, subject to approval by Kerrier District Council in January. The adit has qualified for this work following a further collapse earlier in the year. Commenting, local MP Julia Goldsworthy said: "It is fantastic news that there is a real opportunity to solve this problem as early as next year. For too long the flooding of the adit has blighted Troon and people have had little hope that it could be addressed. I am pleased to have played a role in bringing this to a successful solution, along with Kerrier District Council. I'm now confident that this much needed work will soon be undertaken, and will continue to do all I can to ensure that this process runs smoothly. Councillor Tony Bunce, Liberal Democrat District and County Councillor for Camborne South added : "This news is very encouraging step in the right direction. We will continue to work hard to resolve the problem of flooding in the adit, which has affected the residents of Troon so badly and for so long.
