Falmouth Post Office Closure

3.00.00pm GMT Tue 12th Feb 2008

Commenting on the news that Falmouth's Crown Post Office has closed its doors until further notice, local MP Julia Goldsworthy said:

"I have already written to Post Office Limited calling on them to re-open this branch as soon as possible. They have serious questions to answer about whether they knew of the problems at this branch, as well as what they will be doing to restore normal service as soon as possible.

"Many customers will have travelled to the Moor, only to face another journey before being able to collect their pensions. Those needing to pay their road tax or apply for passports will have to travel all the way over to Penryn. For many people the Post Office is a lifeline - it's just not good enough that it can be closed until further notice without any warning."

"There is a climate of fear surrounding Cornwall's Post Offices at the moment - many local Postmasters believe their branch could be the next to close. As far as they are concerned, everyone is at risk until the government says otherwise."
