Member of Youth Parliament for Mid Cornwall shadows Julia1.18.00pm BST (GMT +0100) Fri 2nd May 2008 David Callaghan, the Member of Youth Parliament for Mid Cornwall shadowed MP Julia Goldsworthy yesterday in the centre of UK politics, Westminster. The day included David watching a debate in both the House of Commons and the House of Lords. Over Lunch local issues for young people were discussed with David explaining to Julia what he believed to be the main issues for young people in Mid Cornwall. David was then shown around some more of Parliament including being taken over to Portcullis House where Julia's office is located. He then learnt about what is means to be an MP and what work it can entail ranging from signing up to Early Day Motions to show support to replying to constituents' letters. David informed Julia about the work that he was doing as a Member of Youth Parliament ranging from working on improving Transport for Young People to making sure young peoples are heard in decisions which affect them. David and Julia will remain in communication in order to make sure that young people's voices are heard so Julia can take these forward in her capacity as an MP. Commenting, David said: "It was very interesting to see the work that Julia does and what a day entails. Watching a debate in the House of Commons was interesting to see everything happening. It was great to inform Julia of what I believe to be the issues for the Young People of Mid Cornwall so she can take these forward." Julia added: "I was very pleased to welcome David to Parliament. He is clearly doing a great job for young people in his constituency. I very much look forward to continuing our dialogue in the coming months so that we can work together to tackle the issues affecting young people in Cornwall.
