Comment on Lower Cardrew House

12.00.00pm BST (GMT +0100) Thu 18th Jun 2009

Commenting on reports that Cornwall Partnership Trust is considering closing Lower Cardrew House, a unit for low risk mental health clients in Redruth, local MP Julia Goldsworthy said:

"The closure of Lower Cardrew House in Redruth would be a body blow not only to mental health services in the area, but across Cornwall. Needs are growing in the county, yet it seems that mental health services are being cut back.

"Our health service is so important to people in Cornwall, yet it seems the trust can take decisions without being directly accountable for them in any way. Cornwall Partnership Trust must come clean about their plans, and demonstrate how local people's views will be taken into account."
