Hayle will be in safe hands with Julia Goldsworthy, former MP Andrew George has said. Mr George has stepped down as the town's MP after 13 years due to boundary changes, and will instead be standing in the St Ives seat. Hayle becomes part of the Camborne and Redruth constituency.

Mr George said voters would be in safe hands with Lib Dem Julia Goldsworthy, who was elected as the MP for Falmouth and Camborne in 2005.

He said: "I am of course sad to be losing Hayle, which is my home town, but I'm reassured and delighted that Julia will be a great replacement providing that people turn out and support her on May 6th. Julia has been an excellent MP for Falmouth and Camborne and I think she will be a local champion for Hayle as well. I feel that voters here are in safe hands with her."

Julia Goldsworthy said: "Andrew has been an excellent local MP for Hayle and I'm honoured to have his support. As a candidate I have worked with Andrew on a number of important local campaigns, like fighting to keep St Michael's Hospital open and pressing for a better service at Hayle railway station.

"There is still a long way to go before Cornwall gets the fair deal we deserve for the funding of our schools, hospitals and police. The Liberal Democrat team have secured some notable successes - on water bills and securing extra health funding, but there are still many more battles to be fought and won.

"For too long, consecutive Labour and Conservative governments have left Cornwall's needs at the bottom of the pile - after the election, just as we did before, Andrew and I will be working as a team to fight Cornwall's corner and ensure the needs of local people get recognised."
