Quotes of the Week

"Perhaps we'll win enough National Fronters to compensate for the loss of the many liberals this has alienated. I don't know. But I do know how I feel. Ashamed."

Labour MP Austin Mitchell on the Government's deportation of a family from his constituency

The Independent - 1 February

"Sir Menzies's dignified bearing in the face of the [Labour] mob is a lesson to us all. He at least is not going to sink to their level, and yesterday he launched a telling counter-attack on the glib and arrogant lawyer to whom they long ago entrusted their affairs."

Andrew Gimson on Menzies Campbell at PMQ

The Daily Telegraph - 18 January

"It is outdated and unfair for someone aged 16 to be paid less than someone aged 18, who in turn is paid less than someone aged 21, for doing the same work. Following the introduction of recent age discrimination legislation, these [National Minimum Wage rate differences] are no longer acceptable. They should be scrapped."

Susan Kramer MP, Lib Dem Trade and Industry Secretary
